WHO WE ARE

Our Roots

The Beto Mena Foundation aims to spread our message of hope and compassion to all those affected by the pandemic. We believe that a single action can make a difference, and that collective action can greatly impact the world during these difficult times.

Jose Roberto "Beto Mena" Alvarez-Mena was an Salvadorian native who graduated Colegio Externado de San Jose in 1970.  He then made his dreams a reality leaving his civil war stricken country, to come to Southern California, where he met the love of his life.  He married Mirna Alvarez in 1985, raising 3 children: Monica, Roberto Jr, Alisha.  Beto Mena was a hard working, compassionate, genuine, intelligent human who put others before himself.  Tragically after two weeks in the ICU, he passed away on July 20, 2020 due to COVID-19 complications. His family has created this foundation in his honor, to help minority families who are in need of help.
